Basic Information on the Sahara
The Sahara is the hottest desert and the third largest desert in the whole entire world. It's area is 9,400,000 km2, making it nearly as big as the whole of China. To help you have a feel of this, it is about 3,000,000 Central Parks, but this time in Africa. The Sahara Desert alone takes up around 10% of the African Continent.
The Sahara divides the African Continent into two parts, the Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Sahara in Arabic actually means "Great Desert". This name actually fits because it is the world's largest HOT DESERT. (more on that on the "Climate" Page)
